Information We Collect

We collect the following information to provide and improve BucksBuddy:

Account information: Your name, email address, and optional profile photo when you create an account.

Financial data: Transactions (vendor, amount, currency, category, notes), budgets, and spending history that you enter manually or that are logged automatically.

SMS and notification data: If you enable automatic transaction logging, BucksBuddy reads your bank SMS messages and Apple Pay notifications on-device to extract transaction details (vendor name, amount, date). The raw message content is sent to our servers for processing and storage.

Household data: If you create or join a household, we store household membership, transaction splits, and balance information between members.

Device information: Push notification tokens, device type, platform (iOS/Android), and app version for delivering notifications and diagnosing issues.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Provide transaction tracking, budgeting, category insights, and spending analytics.

Parse SMS messages and Apple Pay notifications to automatically log and categorize transactions.

Enable household expense splitting and balance tracking between members.

Send push notifications for transaction alerts, budget warnings, and household updates (configurable in your settings).

Diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve app stability.

We never sell your personal or financial data to third parties.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase, which provides enterprise-grade encryption and security. All data is transmitted over HTTPS.

Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure keychain (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore), not in plain-text storage.

Access to your data is protected by row-level security policies, ensuring users can only access their own data and data shared within their household.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate BucksBuddy:

Supabase — database hosting, authentication, and server-side functions for transaction processing.

RevenueCat — manages in-app subscriptions and purchase validation through the App Store and Google Play. RevenueCat receives your anonymous user ID and purchase receipts.

Sentry — error and crash reporting to help us identify and fix bugs. Sentry receives error logs, stack traces, and basic device information. No financial data is sent to Sentry.

Expo — delivers push notifications and over-the-air app updates. Expo receives your push notification token and device identifier.

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics trackers, or data brokers.

Subscription Data

If you subscribe to BucksBuddy Pro (Solo or Couple plans), your subscription is processed entirely through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not collect or store your payment card details. RevenueCat tracks your subscription status and entitlements using an anonymous customer ID linked to your account.

Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account through the app settings, your profile is marked for deletion and your personal data is removed. Raw SMS messages that were processed are retained in anonymized form for service improvement.

Household data shared with other members (e.g., split transactions) may remain visible to those members after you leave a household.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access and review all personal and financial data stored in your account.

Correct inaccurate information through the app.

Delete your account and associated data through the app settings.

Disable SMS auto-logging, push notifications, or household sharing at any time in your settings.

If you are located in the EU/EEA, you may also exercise rights under the GDPR, including data portability and the right to object to processing. Contact us to make a request.

Children's Privacy

BucksBuddy is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of BucksBuddy after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
